After a few tries of putting VHS signals into the computer, I finally read on the internet, info about how to keep the sound synchronized with the picture. I used the separate editing software included, to capture the VHS signal, instead of the Diamond software. The other software has capture, edit, and produce (record a DVD) functions. So one doesn't need to use the button on the device to capture their recordings from tape. I tried this on two computers and three DVD writers before I found what would make a good DVD. I don't know yet how to have separate chapters on one DVD. Everything comes out as one long recording so far. I try to record things in no more than 80 minute segments, then edit them together. Be careful while editing. If you press the wrong button, there is no undo nor redo button. I have had to redo a long segment to get things right.
Included instructions are not complete enough. Tape glitches and poor signals can cause the recording into the computer to stop, because it thinks the signal is copy-protected. I had to re-do some short sections and edit them all together before burning the DVD.
One can also record into the computer, the over the air broadcast TV through a digital decoder.
